We at Homey are committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy applies to our browser extension (Homey), our website (https://homey.place/) and any subdomains of homey.place.

The information we gather or process is used solely for core functionality of Homey and to improve the quality and security of our service.

Account information

Your name, email, account settings, and extension data are transferred and stored securely, solely for your usage within our extension and not shared with any other third parties, except as specified in this policy.

Payment information

To upgrade to Homey Premium, your credit card number, credit card expiration date, security code, name, country and postal code are required. All payment processing is done through a GDPR compliant third party (Paddle, Inc.). When paying by a credit card, the card details do not pass through our servers, they are sent directly to Paddle and are stored securely, as per their Privacy and Security policies.

To perform requested changes to or inquiries about your Homey account (cancelling, refunding, or changing payment details), authorized members of Homey’s support team could potentially view payment-related information contained in Paddle’s databases (this is limited to billing name, billing address, postal code, the last four digits of credit card(s), and credit card expiry date(s)) while accessing subscription information via Paddle’s payment dashboard. This information will only be accessed upon your request.

Data accessible through Browser Extensions API

Chrome Extension API used within Chrome Add-ons and Edge Extension API used within Edge Add-ons have fine-grained permission levels that are enforced by the Web Browser, restricting information that our extension has access to within your Browser. The Homey extension can only access specific information that you have explicitly granted permission for.

Additional optional permissions may be requested when you enable specific features. When you enable a feature that requests an optional permission, your Web Browser will make it clear what permission(s) are being requested. The feature will be accessible once you choose to allow the requested permission(s).

Feature usage data

To improve the content, features and overall experience of the extension, we gather and log data on how our users access and use Homey. For example, we may log actions like clicking on a search button, updating a wallpaper, or completing a note (not the content of the note, just the action of completing it). Some of this usage data is sent to Amplitude.

Third-Party Sites and Services

Homey website or any of our services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the information collected by those third parties and we encourage you to read their privacy policy before submitting any personal information to them:

Partner Links & Affiliate Programs

To support the development and maintenance of Homey, some website suggestions in our interface may be marked with a [P] badge and labeled as "Partner link".

How it works:

• Technical Process: These are affiliate links. If you choose to open a tile marked [P] in Suggestions, or open a bookmark marked [P] that was saved from Suggestions, your browser may briefly redirect through our affiliate network provider (TakeAds) and its tracking domains (such as tatrck.com) before reaching the destination website.
• Attribution: This process is strictly for attribution purposes (CPC/CPA), allowing Homey to earn a small commission from the merchant.
• No Extra Cost: Using these links is at no extra cost to you. Any commission is paid by the merchant as a referral fee.
• User Action Only: Homey does not inject or modify affiliate links in the background. Partner links are used only as a result of your direct action (e.g., opening a tile marked [P] or adding it to bookmarks), and they are clearly labeled in the user interface. Homey does not overwrite your existing bookmarks and does not replace affiliate codes in URLs you already have.
• Your Control: You can manage these bookmarks just like any other. You may remove the partner link at any time via the "Edit Bookmark" dialog by selecting "Remove partner link".

Smart Suggestions

Homey includes a "Smart Suggestions" feature that suggests useful websites based on your interactions within the Suggestions block.

To generate and improve these recommendations, we use a third-party service provider, Recombee, which acts as a data processor on our behalf.

We process the following data:

• Pseudonymous ID: A random identifier assigned to your installation. It cannot be linked to your real name, email, or payment details.
• Interaction Data: We log actions specifically within the Suggestions block (e.g., which tiles were viewed, clicked, or saved to bookmarks).
• Your Control: You can disable "Smart Suggestions" at any time in the Extension Settings. If disabled, you will see generic suggestions not tailored to your interests. You can also request to clear your recommendation data by clicking the "Clear Suggestions data" button in the settings.

We do not use or send your general browsing history, search queries, or your personal bookmarks to our recommendation provider (Recombee). Data used for recommendations is limited to your interactions within the Suggestions block (e.g., views, clicks, saves) and a pseudonymous identifier, and is used only to personalize and improve suggestions. We do not sell your data.

Is my data secure?

Data security is a priority at all times.

In Transit

All data communication in transit to and from our servers is secured using HTTPS/TLS. Homey domains use HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to enforce HTTPS.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make major changes in the way we collect or use information, we will notify you by posting an announcement on the Website or sending you an email. A user is bound by any changes to the Privacy Policy when he or she uses the Services after such changes have been first posted.
